So I am a bad person because I haven’t been posting here, but I’ve been doing other things and I CAN PROVE IT. Check this:
I’m doing my first residential project. It’s a 150 sq ft room and we get to invent our own customer and concept statement. My customer was a violinist who played and recorded his music in his own home. So he needed a space that was soundproofed (for poor wife’s benefit as well as to block exterior sounds) with high ceilings and places for various equipment. I originally took inspiration from a picture of grass peeking through snow, thought this has been adjusted somewhat.
I did some research on what a room like this would need, and came up with a floor plan pretty quickly.

Then there was sketching. So much sketching I don’t really want to scan it in for you. Sorry. ANYWAYS, I then moved to SketchUp and did a mockup!

and then there was MORE SKETCHING and I realized that ALL my furniture sucked ass. Also my color scheme. So I moved away from the cool crisp of the snow part of my inspiration and focused on the spring bit. I got a new color scheme and switched from Art Deco to Art Nouveau. Insert obligatory additional sketching until I was happy.
(Sorry about this one, my scanner is too small for my sketchbook and my sketching tends to be very…. sketchy.)

and then I went back to my SketchUp model.

(Sorry this doesn’t show the whole room. I was sort of focusing on producing a nice perspective to render for the teacher.) Which brings us to the colored pencil rendering I did on trace paper over a printed version of the above. It’s not finished but I think it gives a good idea of what I’m aiming for.

And that, my dears, is why I’ve been neglecting my Tumblr.
